Despite her reputation, The Snarky Editor really does like to give authors a break. Even when they misuse the word.
The things that bring cars to a halt? Those are brakes, not breaks. When a would-be murderer tampers with a car, he often cuts the brake lines. The devices on the wheels are brakes; the extra security device is an emergency brake.
Smashing something into pieces? That’s breaking it. Fixing it means matching up the breaks and gluing the sections together.
Are you feeling slammed yet?
And that’s the breaks, people. Straight from The Snarky Editor.
The Snarky Editor comes out of hiding occasionally to comment on the awkward, silly, and sometimes hilarious editing errors found in published books.
